Somewhat mild, but nice flavor. Good bargain stick.

A very common smoke. Slight back bite from a rough flavor. Not going to be my go to.

Villiger Talanga. I’ve been smoking the Villiger Export Gross Format cigars for over 50 years now, since I was a teenager… And they’ve been a mainstay. I’ve always found them to be very handy pocket smokes, mild but flavorful and elegantly formatted. Absolutely reliable, affordable even for a young broke bohemian, machine made and not requiring a humidor to keep.… I’ve never known anyone else who smoked them, and when I started traveling to New York City in the early 70s I was delighted to find that they didn’t have to be had from a tobacconist but could be picked up at a few corner stores on Canal Street and many other convenient places all over the city… so someone else was smoking them, I just don’t know who. They much later became “discovered” by the boom of “aficionados” in the new millennium, prized and touted for their price, the convenience of their format and reliable quality… “nice everday smokes” as our countless reviewers of the information age say. And now, of late, Villiger has begun to branch out into handmade formats and more artsy tobacco content to advantage this greatly changed amerikan market. So I’ve been anxious to try some of these new vitolas and experiences of their respective smoke. I recently bought a bundle of Talangas and decided this evening to pull a fresh one out and give it a try before aging it even beyond these few days since they arrived. They present visually and unlit as rather pale, mild and Connecticut-ish, and I purchased them as such to provide some contrast to the more rich and dark smokes that I tend to gravitate towards… And this one started off to that kind of experience- quite mild and grassy and frankly lacking is my best description… hinting at possible disappointment. The wrapper was beyond tissue thin to the point that the foot of the cigar was somewhat delicately frayed before even putting it to a very light lick of a flame but it maintained it’s physical composure less than a centimeter down… also it remained tentatively disappointing for the first inch… however, smoked slowly and patiently, it began working on our relationship. Through the course of the smoke I was forced to lightly decoupage a couple of small delicate tears in the rapper with fingertip spittle to keep it smoothed down and from developing a hole. But it never really became an actual problem with the burn. It was not a top-notch roll, the draw was acceptable but not superlative… But goodness it sure began to taste more and more interesting the further we went. The last half became a progressively more and more complex and satisfying gig. I smoked and relished it to the point that I could not hold it in my fingers any longer leaving just a couple of centimeters of a stub that, if I had a pipe here with me I would finish stuffed into the bowl! I think the cigars are going to age magnificently. I’m going to have to buy another bundle or, better a box soon for longevity. A very satisfying hour and a half… And we’re going to be getting together regularly. It began as a very markedly, nearly insufficiently mild and non-descript cigar, progressing to a medium flavor profile, it was not overpowering or markedly rich and pungent but certainly far richer and more complex than where it began. What I assume was the terpene profile actually felt medicinal, in a highly pleasant way if you get my drift. I was suffused with that lovely sense of gentle satisfaction and well being that a truly good smoke delivers. Forget about descriptions of “notes“… Suffice it to say it was just a very pleasant and interesting blend of tobacco that I just did not want to let go of until I was forced to do so. I recently purchased several other Villiger handmade products that I’m now looking all the more forward to smoking…

Found one of these at a b&m, searches all over but o could find any more u til I searched Thompson. Very flavorful, refined and a sweet tobacco flavor with a balanced light spice. Excellent morning smoke with a cup of coffee. I may order another 10 pack before they're gone.
